About the Jack Miller Center:

The Jack Miller Center (JMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education in America’s founding principles and history, an education vital to thoughtful and engaged citizenship. Through a vast network of scholars and educators, the Center fosters strong undergraduate teaching, serious scholarship, in-depth professional development for K-12 teachers, centers for civic thought on college campuses, and innovative teaching resources.

The Founding Civics Initiative:

JMC’s Founding Civics Initiative supports K-12 civics educators through high-quality professional development programs and classroom resources. This rapidly growing initiative at JMC emphasizes the importance of teaching founding documents to middle and high school students, deepens K-12 teachers’ understanding of the content they teach, and builds a community of educators committed to meaningful civics education for the next generation.

Position Overview:

The Civics Outreach Associate plays a key role in building the Founding Civics Initiative. We seek a mission-oriented, driven individual who will assist JMC’s Civics Outreach Officer in facilitating its expansion through a wide array of responsibilities including but not limited to: the development and execution of programming; evaluation of program outcomes; entering and managing data for reporting purposes; and communications and marketing regarding the initiative. This position offers significant opportunities for near-term advancement, including management responsibilities, as the Founding Civics Initiative grows.

The role is located in Bala Cynwyd, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. This is not a remote position.

Salary:

$55,000 – $60,000. Range may increase with higher levels of experience and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  1. Assist Officer with the development and implementation of professional development programming for teachers, which includes a wide range of activities including pre-event communication and logistics coordination, producing materials for events, securing venues and catering, attending events, post-event reporting, and other related tasks.
  2. Assist Officer in the evaluation of programs through surveys, participant tracking, and ongoing communications with teachers.
  3. Draft and edit regular email communications for JMC’s network of teachers and professors as well as relevant publicity materials.
  4. Assist K-12 team members with development of JMC resources for K-12 educators.
  5. Conduct targeted research on civic education-related issues nationally and in specific regions.
  6. Manage the JMC Salesforce database as it concerns JMC’s K-12 outreach activities, as well as regional teacher contact information databases.
  7. Assist in the maintenance and improvement of JMC’s website.

Skills and Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the mission of the Jack Miller Center
  2. Bachelor’s degree
  3. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  4. Ability to travel, particularly during the summer (likely no more than 10% of year)
  5. Self-motivated; ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  6. Detail-oriented, strong time-management skills, and ability to prioritize work
  7. Team player with the ability to successfully engage with colleagues across the organization
  8. Ability to interact professionally with professors, donors, and other individuals involved in our efforts
  9. Flexibility and adaptability with job requirements and workflow
  10. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  11. Familiarity with Salesforce, Adobe Acrobat, and/or Mailchimp a plus
